## Connect to GitHub to unlock gated channels
* Using the Discord online from a laptop or desktop device, follow the steps below to connect your Discord account to your GitHub account to unlock gated channels in the server, including channels for Student Ambassadors.
* In Discord, connect your GitHub account to your Discord account by clicking the User Settings gear in the bottom left corner. Then click Connections, GitHub and follow the workflow. You might need to expand the display of available Connections to see GitHub.
* In the Microsoft Student Developer Community server, assign the GitHub Student role to yourself by clicking the server name at the top of the channel list. Then click Linked Roles, GitHub Student and Finish.
* Add the gated channels you just unlocked to your channel list by clicking the Microsoft Student Developer Community server name at the top of the channel list. Then click Show all channels.
## Interested in becoming a Student Ambassador
* Register for the program by visiting [StudentAmbassadors.com](https://studentambassadors.com) and clicking Get Started. Registration is quick and easy and should take less than 5 minutes. No application required.
* Connect your GitHub account to your Discord account and assign yourself the GitHub Student role (as described above) to unlock gated channels, including the Ambassadors-FAQ and Conversation channels.
* Read more about program paths and their required activities in the Ambassadors-FAQ. Remember, this channel unlocks after you connect GitHub to Discord and assign yourself the GitHub Student role.
* Choose your program path (you don't need to tell us) and complete the required path activities to be invited to join the program. Invitations are sent on a quarterly basis in January, April, July and October.
* Search for answers to additional questions in the Ambassadors-FAQ channel and reach out to student moderators in the Conversation channel. Remember, these channels unlock after you connect GitHub to Discord and assign yourself the GitHub Student role.
